Chiesa di San Rocco

Church

Soave-East Veronese

According to tradition, the first place of worship was built in the 14th century. Originally dedicated to St. Anthony the Abbot, in 1630, during the plague, it was dedicated to St. Roch, protector of pilgrims, those afflicted by the plague and more generally the infected, pharmacists, and undertakers (in some places also the workers of hides), as the entire area was affected by the disease.

The current building is the result of a reconstruction on the foundations of the previous church towards the end of the 1800s, thanks to donations, both monetary and material, from the local faithful.
