Fongaro Spumanti

Fongaro Spumanti is located in Roncà, a small municipality situated in the Val d’Alpone, the easternmost valley of the province of Verona. The vineyards are partly within the Lessinia Regional Natural Park.

It produces only sparkling wine using the Classic Method, the traditional method par excellence. This means that their wines obtain those lively bubbles thanks to a second fermentation in the bottle, rather than in an autoclave. It also means that Fongaro sparkling wine is a high-quality product, because this re-fermentation gives it a unique complexity and elegance in colors, aromas, and particular persistence.

The Durella grape is the soul of Fongaro sparkling wines, which are protected by the Consorzio Vino Lessini Durello. The project to produce sparkling wine using the Classic Method from this grape variety started in the second half of the 1970s, finally giving importance to a grape that until then had only been used to produce blending wine or relegated to domestic use.

Even today, their wines are largely the result of purely manual labor: on average, each bottle is touched, collected, and moved by their hands at least 40 times before leaving the cellar.
