La Pesciara di Bolca

Museum-gallery

Soave-East Veronese

Fossil deposit known for over 500 years and renowned worldwide for the quantity of Tertiary era fossils found and for the perfect preservation of the animal and plant species discovered here.

The gallery was excavated after removing the first fossil layer that was on the surface.

The fossils, primarily represented by fish and plants, are found within five overlapping layers, made up of finely grained limestone that is densely stratified, interspersed with limestone layers containing remains of invertebrates and shells.

A visit to the gallery inside the Pesciara and the opportunity to sift through the soil in search of small fossils is now one of the most exciting and engaging attractions for those who want to visit this unique place in the world.
