Verona

The work, made of bronze, presents itself as a rounded shape rising on a cylindrical base. The diameter is 3 meters. The sculpture features, on both sides of the sphere, excrescences that recall the natural dimension of the subject.

This work was born as the final expression of the artist, who intended to reproduce a previous work on the same subject, created in 1967, in larger dimensions. On the base, there is an engraved plaque that reads: Gino Bogoni / (1921-1990) / fruit object sculpture / 1990 / donated to the city by the Bogoni family / Created by the Banca Popolare di Verona / executed by the Artistic Foundry Fabris and F.lli Folla 1998.

The work was created in 1990, it was placed in Piazza San Nicolò in 1998 and was inaugurated in 1999. The shape of this “fruit” is primordial, simple, and immediate, inspired by the desert rose as the artist was a great observer and lover of nature. The solution to add complementary structures to the pure round form, which seem to cut through the sculpture, gives three-dimensionality to the work and creates a chiaroscuro effect in which the surface becomes dynamic and lively, projecting out of the material. This sculpture is the last work of Gino Bogoni (Verona, 1921-1990) and was donated by the artist's heirs to Verona at Bogoni's own wish, who wanted to emphasize his strong bond with his hometown through this gesture.

The author, at only thirteen years of age, attended the Academy of Fine Arts “Cignaroli” under the guidance of master Franco Egidio Girelli, of whom he became the preferred student, even becoming his assistant and apprentice. He graduated in sculpture in 1939. He was called to arms in 1941 and remained in Russia until 1943. Once he returned to Italy, he taught until 1951 and worked as a restorer, creating, among other things, the casts of the reliefs of the San Zeno door in Verona. The following years mark an intense artistic activity, recognized and appreciated at an international level.
