Church of Saint Andrew

Church

Lago di Garda Veneto

The origins of the Pieve di Sant'Andrea date back to at least the 8th century, as evidenced by the Lombard remains found in the area, while the earliest written sources mentioning it are from 843 and 856. In the 12th century, the ancient church was rebuilt in Romanesque style; the current building, however, was constructed between 1753 and 1770 based on the design of the Veronese architect Adriano Cristofali, taking on the elegant neoclassical appearance that still characterizes it today.

The façade, sober and harmonious, leads to a single nave interior adorned with side chapels, architectural decorations, and a majestic barrel vault. Of particular importance is the altarpiece by the Veronese painter Felice Brusasorzi, depicting the Martyrdom of Saint Andrew the Apostle. Outside, on the southern side of the church, stands the bell tower, which retains the structure of the ancient Romanesque tower, later elevated.

Among the curiosities, some stone fragments from the Roman and Lombard eras are still visible embedded in the southern outer wall of the building, testifying to the ancient origins of the church.
