Beccherle Palace

Historic monument

Verona

Palazzo Beccherle is located at no. 12 of Stradone San Fermo, along the ancient Via dei Brentari, in an urban area next to the Roman fortification wall.

Designed by Giuseppe Barbieri in 1818 on commission from Bernardo Palmarini, the project reconfigures and rehabilitates a portion of a block from an older settlement, with the intention of redistributing and harmonizing the internal spaces, increasing the space for the inner courtyard and reorganizing the new layout, centering it on a central axis, thus providing symmetry to the external facade.

Due to its location, the structure is included in the fortification efforts of the city commissioned by Cangrande della Scala in the early 14th century.

The facade is structured over three levels: the ground floor consisting of a rusticated base, the upper part marked by thin string courses, and the noble floor is articulated with large windows crowned alternately by a triangular pediment or lowered arch with a balcony in the center, while the top floor features square windows and simpler frames. The inner courtyard is organized with a portico of double orders of paired Tuscan columns.

Historically, the palace first belonged to the Palmarini, then to the Sparavieri, the Tedeschi, the Goldschmiedt, and finally to the Beccherle.

The palace is currently privately owned.
