ROOTS | In the footsteps of the Tamburino

A walking trip in the heart of the Custoza hills, to rediscover the places and stories that have crossed the Italian Risorgimento and that still today keep the memory of men, families, and communities.

A walk will guide participants along a route made up of milestones, monuments, and testimonies, small signs scattered throughout the territory that become the starting point for telling the battles of Custoza and the events of those who lived them.

From the monument to Prince Amedeo of Savoy, depicted at the moment he is wounded, to the plaque dedicated to Stefano Messaggi, from the monument to the Grenadiers to the Casa del Tamburino Sardo, and up to the Ossuary of Custoza, each stop reveals a fragment of a larger story.

Accompanying the path will be the words of the soldiers and the testimonies of the time, through which it will be possible to restore a human face to the events: fears, courage, hopes, sufferings, and bonds that, in those days, intertwined among these hills.

For those returning to Custoza in search of their roots, the route also becomes an opportunity to reconnect with the history of the territory and with the memory of the generations that have inhabited and traversed it. The events of the Risorgimento thus transform into a gateway to local history, in search of the traces left by people and communities over time.

The journey will conclude with a guided visit to the Ossuary of Custoza and the Exhibition Halls of the House of the Keeper, places where the memory of the battles is preserved and handed down to today's generations.
